The HI3823 test kit provides users with the most important test parameters for aquatic applications: alkalinity, carbon dioxide, dissolved oxygen, hardness, pH and salinity.

Each of these parameters plays a critical role in the delicate balance of the aquatic environment: alkalinity acts as a stabilizer for pH; carbon dioxide must be monitored due to its toxic effects on the parts (each species can tolerate different levels of CO2); oxygen levels affect the respiration of the pieces and incorrect concentrations can slow down their growth rate; the hardness is controlled because it decreases the level of ammonia toxicity; the pH is also measured to determine the level of toxicity of the water; salinity is important due to its relationship with dissolved oxygen.
